While the mom dove watched the kids, dad would fly out, cooing when he left, and come back again with sticks or dry grass. He’d carefully approach the nest and drop off the building material where mom dove would incorporate the new piece into the nest. The human made nest is tipping over so the doves are building a bird-made nest that extends off the side of the ferret ball.
